Volumetric flow
Convert US gallon per minute (US gpm) to cubic foot per second (ft³/s). Volumetric flow rate is the volume of fluid passing a point per unit time — the basis for line sizing, pump duty, and instrument ranging.
1 US gpm = 0.002228009 ft³/s
To convert US gallon per minute to cubic foot per second, multiply the US gpm value by 0.002228009. To go the other way, divide by 0.002228009 (or multiply by 448.8312).
| US gpm | ft³/s |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0.002228009 |
| 2 | 0.004456019 |
| 5 | 0.01114005 |
| 10 | 0.02228009 |
| 25 | 0.05570023 |
| 50 | 0.1114005 |
| 100 | 0.2228009 |
| 250 | 0.5570023 |
| 500 | 1.114005 |
| 1000 | 2.228009 |
Pump and line duties are quoted in m³/h or US gpm; instrument and utility flows often in L/min or ft³/s.
Volumetric flow depends on temperature and pressure for gases — convert on the same basis (actual vs standard) to avoid errors.
Worked example. A flow rate of 15850.32 US gpm is 35.31467 ft³/s.
Multiply the value in US gpm by 0.002228009 to get ft³/s. For example, 10 US gpm = 0.02228009 ft³/s.
1 US gpm equals 0.002228009 ft³/s.
