Power
Convert ton of refrigeration (RT) to mechanical horsepower (hp). Power is energy per unit time — the rating of pumps, compressors, motors, and heat duties.
1 RT = 4.716177 hp
To convert ton of refrigeration to mechanical horsepower, multiply the RT value by 4.716177. To go the other way, divide by 4.716177 (or multiply by 0.2120361).
| RT | hp |
|---|---|
| 1 | 4.716177 |
| 2 | 9.432355 |
| 5 | 23.58089 |
| 10 | 47.16177 |
| 25 | 117.9044 |
| 50 | 235.8089 |
| 100 | 471.6177 |
| 250 | 1179.044 |
| 500 | 2358.089 |
| 1000 | 4716.177 |
Rotating-equipment duties are quoted in kW or hp; heat duties in kW, MW, or BTU/hr.
Electrical input, shaft power, and hydraulic power differ by the efficiencies between them — label which one a number refers to.
Worked example. A power of 28.43451 RT is 134.1022 hp.
Multiply the value in RT by 4.716177 to get hp. For example, 10 RT = 47.16177 hp.
1 RT equals 4.716177 hp.
