Power
Convert mechanical horsepower (hp) to ton of refrigeration (RT). Power is energy per unit time — the rating of pumps, compressors, motors, and heat duties.
1 hp = 0.2120361 RT
To convert mechanical horsepower to ton of refrigeration, multiply the hp value by 0.2120361. To go the other way, divide by 0.2120361 (or multiply by 4.716177).
| hp | RT |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0.2120361 |
| 2 | 0.4240723 |
| 5 | 1.060181 |
| 10 | 2.120361 |
| 25 | 5.300903 |
| 50 | 10.60181 |
| 100 | 21.20361 |
| 250 | 53.00903 |
| 500 | 106.0181 |
| 1000 | 212.0361 |
Rotating-equipment duties are quoted in kW or hp; heat duties in kW, MW, or BTU/hr.
Electrical input, shaft power, and hydraulic power differ by the efficiencies between them — label which one a number refers to.
Worked example. A power of 134.1022 hp is 28.43451 RT.
Multiply the value in hp by 0.2120361 to get RT. For example, 10 hp = 2.120361 RT.
1 hp equals 0.2120361 RT.
