Power
Convert million BTU per hour (MMBTU/hr) to mechanical horsepower (hp). Power is energy per unit time — the rating of pumps, compressors, motors, and heat duties.
1 MMBTU/hr = 393.0148 hp
To convert million BTU per hour to mechanical horsepower, multiply the MMBTU/hr value by 393.0148. To go the other way, divide by 393.0148 (or multiply by 0.002544434).
| MMBTU/hr | hp |
|---|---|
| 1 | 393.0148 |
| 2 | 786.0296 |
| 5 | 1965.074 |
| 10 | 3930.148 |
| 25 | 9825.369 |
| 50 | 19650.74 |
| 100 | 39301.48 |
| 250 | 98253.69 |
| 500 | 196507.4 |
| 1000 | 393014.8 |
Rotating-equipment duties are quoted in kW or hp; heat duties in kW, MW, or BTU/hr.
Electrical input, shaft power, and hydraulic power differ by the efficiencies between them — label which one a number refers to.
Worked example. A power of 0.3412142 MMBTU/hr is 134.1022 hp.
Multiply the value in MMBTU/hr by 393.0148 to get hp. For example, 10 MMBTU/hr = 3930.148 hp.
1 MMBTU/hr equals 393.0148 hp.
