Power
Convert mechanical horsepower (hp) to million BTU per hour (MMBTU/hr). Power is energy per unit time — the rating of pumps, compressors, motors, and heat duties.
1 hp = 0.002544434 MMBTU/hr
To convert mechanical horsepower to million BTU per hour, multiply the hp value by 0.002544434. To go the other way, divide by 0.002544434 (or multiply by 393.0148).
| hp | MMBTU/hr |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0.002544434 |
| 2 | 0.005088867 |
| 5 | 0.01272217 |
| 10 | 0.02544434 |
| 25 | 0.06361084 |
| 50 | 0.1272217 |
| 100 | 0.2544434 |
| 250 | 0.6361084 |
| 500 | 1.272217 |
| 1000 | 2.544434 |
Rotating-equipment duties are quoted in kW or hp; heat duties in kW, MW, or BTU/hr.
Electrical input, shaft power, and hydraulic power differ by the efficiencies between them — label which one a number refers to.
Worked example. A power of 134.1022 hp is 0.3412142 MMBTU/hr.
Multiply the value in hp by 0.002544434 to get MMBTU/hr. For example, 10 hp = 0.02544434 MMBTU/hr.
1 hp equals 0.002544434 MMBTU/hr.
