Length
Convert inch (in) to thousandth of an inch (mil). Length units span pipe diameters (mm, inch), plant dimensions (m, ft), and roughness (µm) — mixing metric and imperial is routine.
1 in = 1000 mil
To convert inch to thousandth of an inch, multiply the in value by 1000. To go the other way, divide by 1000 (or multiply by 0.001).
| in | mil |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1000 |
| 2 | 2000 |
| 5 | 5000 |
| 10 | 10000 |
| 25 | 25000 |
| 50 | 50000 |
| 100 | 100000 |
| 250 | 250000 |
| 500 | 500000 |
| 1000 | 1000000 |
Pipe sizes are labelled in inches (NPS) but calculated in mm; equipment layouts mix metres and feet.
Velocity scales with the inverse square of diameter, so a small length error compounds quickly in flow calculations.
Worked example. A length of 3.937008 in is 3937.008 mil.
Multiply the value in in by 1000 to get mil. For example, 10 in = 10000 mil.
1 in equals 1000 mil.
