Length
Convert metre (m) to micrometre (µm). Length units span pipe diameters (mm, inch), plant dimensions (m, ft), and roughness (µm) — mixing metric and imperial is routine.
1 m = 1000000 µm
To convert metre to micrometre, multiply the m value by 1000000. To go the other way, divide by 1000000 (or multiply by 1e-6).
| m | µm |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1000000 |
| 2 | 2000000 |
| 5 | 5000000 |
| 10 | 1e+7 |
| 25 | 2.5e+7 |
| 50 | 5e+7 |
| 100 | 1e+8 |
| 250 | 2.5e+8 |
| 500 | 5e+8 |
| 1000 | 1e+9 |
Pipe sizes are labelled in inches (NPS) but calculated in mm; equipment layouts mix metres and feet.
Velocity scales with the inverse square of diameter, so a small length error compounds quickly in flow calculations.
Worked example. A length of 0.1 m is 100000 µm.
Multiply the value in m by 1000000 to get µm. For example, 10 m = 1e+7 µm.
1 m equals 1000000 µm.
