Velocity
Convert mile per hour (mph) to kilometre per hour (km/h). Velocity is distance per unit time — the line-sizing quantity that flags erosion, noise, and pressure drop.
1 mph = 1.609344 km/h
To convert mile per hour to kilometre per hour, multiply the mph value by 1.609344. To go the other way, divide by 1.609344 (or multiply by 0.6213712).
| mph | km/h |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1.609344 |
| 2 | 3.218688 |
| 5 | 8.04672 |
| 10 | 16.09344 |
| 25 | 40.2336 |
| 50 | 80.4672 |
| 100 | 160.9344 |
| 250 | 402.336 |
| 500 | 804.672 |
| 1000 | 1609.344 |
Line velocities are checked in m/s or ft/s against service-specific guidance bands.
High velocity means high friction loss and erosion risk; low velocity risks settling in slurry lines.
Worked example. A velocity of 4.473873 mph is 7.2 km/h.
Multiply the value in mph by 1.609344 to get km/h. For example, 10 mph = 16.09344 km/h.
1 mph equals 1.609344 km/h.
