Velocity
Convert foot per second (ft/s) to kilometre per hour (km/h). Velocity is distance per unit time — the line-sizing quantity that flags erosion, noise, and pressure drop.
1 ft/s = 1.09728 km/h
To convert foot per second to kilometre per hour, multiply the ft/s value by 1.09728. To go the other way, divide by 1.09728 (or multiply by 0.9113444).
| ft/s | km/h |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1.09728 |
| 2 | 2.19456 |
| 5 | 5.4864 |
| 10 | 10.9728 |
| 25 | 27.432 |
| 50 | 54.864 |
| 100 | 109.728 |
| 250 | 274.32 |
| 500 | 548.64 |
| 1000 | 1097.28 |
Line velocities are checked in m/s or ft/s against service-specific guidance bands.
High velocity means high friction loss and erosion risk; low velocity risks settling in slurry lines.
Worked example. A velocity of 6.56168 ft/s is 7.2 km/h.
Multiply the value in ft/s by 1.09728 to get km/h. For example, 10 ft/s = 10.9728 km/h.
1 ft/s equals 1.09728 km/h.
