Energy
Convert watt-hour (Wh) to kilojoule (kJ). Energy is the capacity to do work or transfer heat — the currency of every heat and material balance.
1 Wh = 3.6 kJ
To convert watt-hour to kilojoule, multiply the Wh value by 3.6. To go the other way, divide by 3.6 (or multiply by 0.2777778).
| Wh | kJ |
|---|---|
| 1 | 3.6 |
| 2 | 7.2 |
| 5 | 18 |
| 10 | 36 |
| 25 | 90 |
| 50 | 180 |
| 100 | 360 |
| 250 | 900 |
| 500 | 1800 |
| 1000 | 3600 |
Heat duties integrate to energy in kJ, MJ, or BTU; utilities are billed in kWh or MMBTU.
A calorie, a BTU, and a joule are all energy — keep the conversion factors handy when a spec mixes them.
Worked example. A energy of 1000 Wh is 3600 kJ.
Multiply the value in Wh by 3.6 to get kJ. For example, 10 Wh = 36 kJ.
1 Wh equals 3.6 kJ.
