Thermodynamics

Steam Tables (IAPWS-IF97) Calculator

Saturated and single-phase water/steam properties — saturation pressure/temperature, enthalpy, entropy, and specific volume — from the IAPWS-IF97 standard.

IAPWS-IF97 — Region 1 (liquid), Region 2 (vapor), Region 4 (saturation)

How it works

The tool evaluates the international-standard IAPWS-IF97 equations directly in your browser. Pick saturation from temperature or pressure to get the boiling point and saturated liquid/vapor properties, or enter pressure and temperature together for a single-phase (compressed-liquid or superheated) state.

Worked example

Saturation at 100 kPa (roughly atmospheric). Boils at ≈ 99.6 °C with hf ≈ 417 kJ/kg, hg ≈ 2675 kJ/kg, and a latent heat of ≈ 2258 kJ/kg.

Frequently asked questions

What is IAPWS-IF97?

The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam's Industrial Formulation (1997) — the standard set of equations that power engineering steam tables. This tool implements Regions 1, 2, and 4 and is verified against the release's official check values.

What is the reference state for enthalpy and entropy?

The triple point: saturated liquid at 0.01 °C has h = 0 and s = 0, exactly as in printed steam tables. So the numbers here match a standard table.

What is the latent heat of steam?

hfg = hg − hf, the energy to evaporate saturated liquid at constant pressure. It's about 2257 kJ/kg at 100 °C and falls to zero at the critical point (374 °C, 22.06 MPa).

Does it cover the critical and supercritical region?

It covers liquid, vapor, and the full saturation line up to the critical point. The near-critical Region 3 (compressed liquid above ~350 °C) is not modeled, and the tool flags when a state falls into it.
