Convert calorie (cal) to joule (J). Energy is the capacity to do work or transfer heat — the currency of every heat and material balance.
1 cal = 4.184 J
To convert calorie to joule, multiply the cal value by 4.184. To go the other way, divide by 4.184 (or multiply by 0.2390057).

A calorie, a BTU, and a joule are all energy — keep the conversion factors handy when a spec mixes them.
Worked example. A energy of 860420.7 cal is 3600000 J.
Multiply the value in cal by 4.184 to get J. For example, 10 cal = 41.84 J.
